  IMlday: Interesting line for a secret training match. I expect any of Botvinnik's opponents would have been surprised if he had played this against them.
Jul-10-08  Gejewe: <IMlday> Noticing your comment I remembered that Botvinnik actually played this 1.e4 c5 2.f4 in other than secret training chess - by transposition ( 1.e4 d6 2.f4 and a quick ..c5 ) Actually the game, against Kotov, USSR 1967 is available at chessgames.com Botvinnik vs Kotov, 1967

  IMlday: As a strategic idea clamping has been around since Philidor, even before McDonnell. One game I recall studying at the time was Bronstein vs N Padevsky, 1965 which also has the light ♗s exchanged.
