Jun-25-07  Tomlinsky: Having played 17.Nxf7!! and reached this position...

White missed the killer blow to Blacks defensive responses and only achieved a draw. This position had also previously been reached in the game A Greenfeld vs E Postny, 2002 where Black ironically defended more accurately but lost the game.

17...Rxe1 as played in both games is the correct response and White of course recaptures with 18.Rxe1. In A Greenfeld vs E Postny, 2002 Black then played the correct follow up move 18...Bxf4 whereas P Lomako in the current game took the knight with 18...Rxf7. Play continued 19.Re8+ Rf8 reaching this position...

And now the missed knock-out punch of 20.Bh3!! threatening Be6+ wins instantly. There is no defence to either the imminent loss of material or death of the monarch. Or both.

Moves such as 20.Bh3 are extremely hard to find over the board but make so much sense, after the fact, when using a "what pieces ideally need to be where" lateral approach in thinking about the requirements of an attack in progress.
