Sep-15-06  aragorn69: What????????????
Sep-15-06  aragorn69: How could Williams play this crap, when the ("European Individual") championship was at stake?? (He was in the lead with 6 others at 6.5/9)

Was this fixed ?!?!? Or just ludicrously stupid ??

Sep-15-06  KingG: The Dutch is one of Williams' main weapons, he even wrote a book on it. I don't really like the look of 4...Rh7, but Fritz does, so it can't be that bad.
Sep-15-06  TheSlid: My silicon friend preferred the Black position up to about move 12. Maybe that humans just dislike dodgy King positions and prefer to attack than defend.

Highly amusing game, for everyone except Simon Williams

Sep-15-06  diction: fun game, Black lures White into a dubious 'attack', but blunders and loses. 11... e6 seems to lead into a draw after 12. Be2 Qxf6 13. Bh5 Qf2+ 14. kd1 Ke7 15. Nd2 d5 16. Rf1 Qf1+ 17. Nxf1 Rxf1 18. Ke2 Rxa1 19 .Qe8+

but 11... d5 can be an improvement... if 12. Be2 exf6 13. Bh5 Qe7 then Be6 0-0-0 etc

at least I would prefer Black“s bishoppair and central pawns.

not using computer for analysis btw

Sep-15-06  TheSlid: <Was this fixed ?!?!? Or just ludicrously stupid ??> All over far too quickly (not much over an hour or so) to be fixed. Stupid? - I don't imagine Lajos Portisch (for instance) would have played this line as Black.

  Sneaky: I like 2.Bg5. It's a tricky line!
Sep-15-06  siggemannen: 2.Bg5 is one of the best anti-dutches, although i prefer the 1.Nf3 2.d3 move-order myself. Looks like Williams messed up the ending

Domdaniel: Williams often plays 1...e6 to reach the Dutch with 2...f5, so he must have wanted to play this line. (Unless he didn't want a French? Or a different anti-Dutch idea like 1.d4 e6 2.g4?!) Bg5 has been analysed a lot in recent years.

Personally I like Lisitsyn's 1.Nf3 f5 2.e4 best... except when Black plays 2...e5 and goes Latvian.

Sep-15-06  siggemannen: isn't lisitsin refuted?
Sep-15-06  suenteus po 147: The finish is quick and brutal if Williams take the bishop: 19...Qxe6 20.Qg8 Rf8 21.Qxe6#

chrisowen: Bit off-hand but I won in 19 moves OTB tonight so balance addressed
Sep-19-06  stanleys: On chessbase, they said that 11...exf6 was a mistake:apparently 11...e6 is the right move
