White can't recapture on d4: 16.Nxd4 Qxh2+ 17.Kf1 Qh1#. With his queen attacked as well, he can do no better than come out a rook down after 16.Rxd4 Rxd4.

This resembles the infamous Siberian Trap, one version of which goes <1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Nxc3 Nc6 5.Nf3 e6 6.Bc4 Qc7 7.0-0 Nf6 8.Qe2 Ng4 9.h3?? Nd4!>

And Black wins the queen. Everybody who plays the Smith-Morra Gambit has fallen for this trap. <At least> once.

Not me. Of course, I was playing the Sicilian for almost 40 years before I took up the Smith-Morra last year.
