Dec-09-06  MarvinTsai: Will someone tell me why not just 40...Rc1 to grab the queen? And what is 40.e4 all about? That's an important pawn, isn't it?

Mateo: <MarvinTsai: Will someone tell me why not just 40...Rc1 to grab the queen? And what is 40.e4 all about? That's an important pawn, isn't it?> The position was very complicated. I guess both players were in zeitnot.

40.e4? instead of 40.Nc3, winning, was inacurrate.

40...Rc1 was the best, although after 41.Qxc1 Nxc1 42.exf5 gxf5, I think White is still better (two passed pawn vs the doubled pawns).

If you study carefully the game, you will see White missed many wins.

The last move 55.Qh4?? was a huge blunder (instead of 55.Qb5 with still a big edge for White). After 55...Rd2, the pinned Knight cannot be saved. If 56.Bg5 Rxe2+ 57.Kg3 Rg2+ 58.Kf3 Rxg5 59.Kxe3 Rh5+, Black wins. A very lucky win for Nogueiras winning a lost game, and certainly a shock for Bareev.
