An Englishman: Good Evening: Wow. The last ten moves are about as good as endings can get.
Feb-20-08  jovack: ansell must have got become complacent because he dropped a winning game
Feb-20-08  DarthStapler: Pretty nice game, I like the conclusion
Feb-20-08  RandomVisitor: 34.Bxa5 Ra8 35.Bc3 Rxa4 36.Bxf6 .

26...gxf4 27.gxf4 Nxf4 28.Nf5+ Ke8 29.Bf1 Be6 30.Rd1 Kf7 31.Nd6+ with rough equality.

Feb-20-08  newzild: Nice shuffle at the end there.
Feb-20-08  newzild: wouldpusher:
Yes, it's a forced mate in six starting with 55.Rd8+
Feb-20-08  bachus: <wouldpusher> If given the position at move 54, I would move 54.Nc5+ and probably still win.... that is, until I saw the combination
Feb-20-08  mack: I beat Simon Ansell in a blitz tournament the other day. We both played awfully, only I less so.
Feb-20-08  xrt999: I dont get blacks play. He avoids the pin from move 9 through 14 (...Bb4) then <cant> play ...Bb4 because the g pawn is hanging. He then makes the move 15...Ne6 (you would think to protect the g-pawn) but <still> doesnt make the move ...Bb4. FINALLY! Black plays ...Bb4 on move 21 when it does absolutely nothing, and white simply moves the knight away.

Then I would at least think some semblance of a purpose of 21...Bb4 is to allow castling, then black throws out 22...Rd8, trading rooks, and black's king is now stuck in the center where it gets boxed in.

Strange game.

Feb-20-08  kevin86: A nice ending. White sacrificed a rook so that he could queen with check. Mate was soon to follow.

Black queened first,white queened BEST.

Jimfromprovidence: I wonder if black had played 43...a4 instead of h5 the result would have been different?

43...h5 allows the white rook to get to the h file and then to the 7th rank to harass black's king, setting up the great winning combination.

Feb-20-08  neosystems: The moves leading up to the mate in six were pretty good. Well played.
Feb-20-08  wanabe2000: Wow! Took muy breath away at the end.
Feb-20-08  PinnedPiece: Hard to see at move 55 that mate is six moves away for white!!!
Feb-21-08  D4n: That hard earned queen did nothing for black...
Feb-24-08  PinnedPiece: I would be <very> interested to know if any Chess engine can get the correct moves for white at move 55 ?
Feb-25-08  tor2ga: <PinnedPiece> -- Crafty instantly finds the mate-in-six. This is expected: all the moves are forcing or forced, and it's a common heuristic (for both engines and people) that one should first search down such narrow lines.
Mar-03-08  PinnedPiece: Wow. Thx <Tor2qa>
Mar-03-08  mindkontrolle: nice friggin game

Apr-29-10  Compeanoff: A mate to be writting with golden letters.

al wazir: Playing through this game, I expected 54. Nc5+ bxc5 55. Rxa5. White picks up the ♙ on a2 on the next move and has a won endgame.

FSR: <al wazir> Yeah, I expected that too. Shulman's line was a smidge better. Beautiful game.
Dec-21-17  paavoh: <Jimfromprovidence: I wonder if black had played 43...a4 instead of h5 the result would have been different?>

Stockfish suggested a draw by repetition: 44.Re6+ Kf8 etc.

Dec-21-17  kevin86: Black queened first, but white queened best.
