Apr-13-23  sfm: A pearl! Black gets a cramped position, but defends brilliantly. Oh, 52.Kh3!! and the march to f7. Thanks for bringing this game up.

Teyss: This game deserves 10/10. Great pick <GrahamClayton>

Full of action and just when you wonder how White can finish off, 52.Kh3!! If 52.Qf7? threatening mate, Black will either deliver perpetual, either check on the g column from behind and play ...Bxg7 protected by the BQ.
52.Qg6 is a bit more complex, apparently White does win after a long series of checks, but not as fast and clean as by sending the WK to attack.

If at some stage Black plays ...e4, Qf7 can be played because the BP blocks some checks for the BQ to deliver perpetual.

49.? would be a great Sunday puzzle, without a Monday POTD so users have two full days to solve it.

Apr-13-23  goodevans: Given how Chajes had played the first forty-odd moves, I expected him to try to shut up shop with 44...Rf6, instead we got <44...Rc7>.

What's this. An attempt at a counterattack? Heaven forfend!

Then after <45.Qe6> we got <45...a5??>. Out of all Black's pathetic moves that's got to be the lamest. Fiddling while Rome burns, as they say.

Weren't <45...Rc1> and <46...Qe1> were called for (I don't think the order matters)? The threat of 47...Qh1+ 48.Kg3 Rc3+ surely stops White's attack in it's tracks?

fredthebear: The Tenner, surely by unanimous vote.

Black's game filled me with horror: undeveloping four minor pieces to the back rank, f6 and Rf7. White places both knights on the 6th rank. How did Black last so long?
