Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-11-13  jerseybob: Is this on time? I don't see it in the position.
Feb-11-13  Gilmoy: The simple 38..Nc4 39.Bg1 Qxa5 looks like it leaves White's pieces with really bad coordination. f3 is indirectly guarded by the fork, White's Q has no easy moves to defend a2. If White doesn't retreat the B, he still has trouble finding a Q move that defends it and a2.

Maybe when White realized he couldn't take the Ne5, the 244-pt gap discouraged him.

Feb-11-13  jerseybob: By playing 38.g4, white already conceded he couldn't take right away on e5. And discouragement? Who knows? Players do get discouraged, but after having already played his move?. After 38..Nc4, how about 39.Kf2,(a)Nxe3 40.Qxe3,Qxa4 41.Qb3!? or (b)39..Qxa4 40.Qb1 with again the Qb3 idea. In either case, the passed d-pawn should at least ensure the draw. And there are other 39th moves for black, but none jumps out at me as a game-changer.
