Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-06-07  newton296: this has to be a one of the best games I've seen in awhile. I cant believe there is no kilbitzing on it yet. CAn black really draw this ? It must have to do with the white's h3 pawn not being able to promote. or its just a misprint? can someone tell me why nakamura doesn't snag the pawns with his king and Q his pawn?? hmm!?
Jul-06-07  Swapmeet: <newton296> If the white king walks over to capture the pawns, then the black king goes to h8 and its a draw.
Jul-06-07  DefianceX: He can easily snag those black pawns of course but it would still be futile since the white pawn has to promote to a dark square which his white bishop cant support.
Jul-06-07  Phoenix: This is one of those positions well worth learning, as it will save you lots of games. In order for White to win the pawns, he has to let the Black king into the h8 corner. In short time, the following position will occur by force:

White to move has to let the king out to g8, or it is stalemate. To win, the Black King has to be chased out of the corner, but this is impossible. Draw!

Jul-06-07  newton296: <thx to all for post> I figured the drawing method had to do with h3 pawn being unable to promote with black king at h8. now I know. thx !
Sep-04-09  timhortons: <phoenix>

i remember having that endgame, yes ended a draw black king need a square other wise its stalemate.
