Jul-29-07  Mameluk: This endgame should be somewhere analyzed to death, it´s 21st century.
Jul-29-07  ruyv: acirce: Carlsen got tired of doing nothing. Probably now somebody will tell us that he "blundered".

hate to say but maybe...
with no computer analysis I think that g5 and b5 (to answer b4 to Nc3) would have saved a pawn.

Jul-29-07  ghristo: Hmm it looks kike it isn't a draw. White have chances for win after a4
Jul-29-07  Mameluk: Still draw, Carlsen loses ´just´ that f7 pawn.
Jul-29-07  Atking: 34.a4 b6 35.Rxa7 Rb2 36.Rb7 Rxb2 37.a5
Jul-29-07  Ulhumbrus: 35 Rxf7 Rb2! 36 Rxa7 Rxb3 appears to draw.
Jul-29-07  MorphysMojo: Can Grischuk win with the extra pawn (after he makes the time control)? How good is his endgame tchnique compared to Carlsens, or could any GM draw this?
Jul-29-07  acirce: Must be a draw, and Carlsen has played this quickly and seemingly confidently. Of course, he showed against Aronian that he can still mess up.
Jul-29-07  Ulhumbrus: 35 Rxa7 Rb2 36 Rb7 Rxb3 37 a5 b5 38 a6 Ra2 39 a7 b3 may draw.
Jul-29-07  MadBishop: I reckon it's a draw. Plus time is also a factor!
Jul-29-07  Gegga: Time is absolutely no factor...
Jul-29-07  acirce: Ok, but Grischuk didn't have to allow 3+2 on the same wing, did he? This is of course elementary.
Jul-29-07  Strongest Force: If Carlsen wants a draw his king must be more active than Grischuk's.
Jul-29-07  Xaurus: <acirce: Must be a draw, and Carlsen has played this quickly and seemingly confidently. Of course, he showed against Aronian that he can still mess up.>Wasn't that pretty much the other way around? As I recall, Magnus displayed some masterful endgame techniques in the match vs Aronian.
Jul-29-07  Eyal: <zanshin: Evals now favoring white (19-ply)> But this is an example where such +1 evals are completely meaningless, since even with a pawn up, such a position with 3 vs. 2 pawns on the same wing is drawn.
Jul-29-07  Atking: <If Carlsen wants a draw his king must be more active than Grischuk's.> it must be the <Strongest Force:> :(
Jul-29-07  acirce: <Xaurus> Aronian vs Carlsen, 2006 saw Magnus blunder in a rook endgame that should be basic on 2700 level.
Jul-29-07  Strongest Force: Black has good drawing possibilities.
Jul-29-07  zanshin: <Eyal: <zanshin: Evals now favoring white (19-ply)> But this is an example where such +1 evals are completely meaningless>

I agree. I think this is a draw.

Jul-29-07  Ulhumbrus: The most that Grischuk can do now is to set Carlsen an examination on endgame technique.
Jul-29-07  Jesspatrick: One drawing plan is to liquidate both black pawns while not allowing white's extra pawn to reach the 6th rank. This will result in a book draw based on Philidor's analysis.

Sneaky: I was about to ask "what's the tablebase value?" but now I see, this is too complex for tablebase. Instinct tell us that it should be a relatively easy draw, but if White is good he can press Black to make a few "only moves" before he reaches salvation.

Open Defence: if the Rooks were off this is a win for White... but forcing a trade looks remote
Jul-29-07  sofouuk: Motylev has 2 minutes to play 11 moves against Polgar - looks precarious
