al wazir: What was the point of 27...f5?
Aug-10-07  luzhin: The point of 27..f5 was to activate his immobilised rook on h7.
Aug-10-07  MarkThornton: 27...f5 was awful. 27..Be4, trying to trap White's rook, looks much better.
Aug-10-07  euripides: On move 27 White threatens to get a setup with Bf6, h4 and Rd1 which would tie both black rooks down. If Black then tries Bd5 to stop the back rank threat and free the queen's rook, White might sac the exchange with Rxd5 to keep Black tied up. 27...f5 stops this bind and releases both rooks at the cost of a pawn.

Perhaps Black can try 27...h4 but it doesn't look promising.
