Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-17-08  Ludamad: Playing for a draw given pawn odds, bleh. Ehlvest really must have thought it hopeless to try and win against Rybka. What simply happened here is that Rybka gave itself a negative evaluation due to the pawn odds, and evaluated draw as 0, so it happily took it. If Rybka was told to avoid draws a bit more, Rybka would probably have been able to win it.
Aug-17-08  tonsillolith: In most of the Rybka-human matches, they used special anti-human parameters with high contempt for the draw. If that was not the case for this match, they did at least learn to do so for future matches.

I am looking forward to the upcoming matchup in mid-September of 2700+ player with the incredibly strong Rybka 3.

Nov-12-08  apexin: which pawns are usually taken from white when play at pawn odds i know its usually e and c pawns, sometimes the d pawn.
Feb-01-09  WhiteRook48: the repetition is just weird
Feb-15-09  WhiteRook48: why not 11...f6?
Feb-26-09  WhiteRook48: taking off an e pawn may be beneficial after all
Apr-02-09  WhiteRook48: 10...Re8
Sep-04-09  YoungEd: In games with odds of Pawn and Move, Black almost always starts without the f-pawn. I've never really seen games like this with odds of Pawn but not Move; I wonder why it's not the f-pawn that's given up. Giving up one of the center pawns to start, as <apexin> says, would seem to start the game with a developmental imbalance. But maybe that's the point. Anyone know about this?
