Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-25-09  rwbean: Another mate in 14 according to Glaurung 2.2:

54... Ng4 55. Nd3 f3 56. Rxf3+ Kxf3 57. Ne1+ Ke3 58. g6 Nh2+ 59. Kg1 Nf3+ 60. Nxf3 Kxf3 61. g7 Rg2+ 62. Kh1 Kf2 63. g8=R Rxg8 64. Kh2 Rg2+ 65. Kh3 Rg3+ 66. Kh2 Rc3 67. Kh1 Rh3#

Now I'm confused about whether the mate that DT announced (according to "Behind Deep Blue", p83) was in this game or the Gliksman game!

Dec-15-12  rwbean: According to Houdini 1.5a, 54... f3 is a mate in 13. 54... f4-f3 55. g5-g6 Rd2-h2 56. Kf1-g1 f3-f2+ 57. Rf6xf2 Rh2xf2 58. g6-g7 Ne5-f3+ 59. Ne1xf3 Rf2-g2+ 60. Kg1-h1 Kg3xf3 61. c2-c4 b4xc3/ep 62. g7-g8R Rg2xg8 63. Kh1-h2 Rg8-g2+ 64. Kh2-h3 c3-c2 65. b3-b4 c2-c1Q 66. b4-b5 Qc1-h1#
Jan-29-14  joddon: very defensive tactics to play against such a calculating computer at that kind of age....easily he demonstrates that he is meant for chess or the other way around.....why has he quit, sad story for competitive chess.
Jan-11-23  rwbean: It took SF 20230109 610 seconds/39 ply to see the mate in 14, but 1904 seconds/50 ply to see the mate in 13, AFTER I gave it 54... Must be a LOT of branching. Heh.

55. ♖f5 ♖h2 56. ♔g1 f2+ 57. ♖xf2 ♖xf2 58. g6 ♘f3+ 59. ♘xf3 ♔xf3 60. g7 ♖g2+ 61. ♔h1 ♖xg7 62. ♔h2 ♖g4 63. ♔h3 ♔f2 64. c4 bxc3 65. b4 ♖xb4 66. ♔h2 ♖xh4#

Jan-11-23  rwbean: Back to the game, 45. ♖c4 draws, 45. ♖e1? loses horribly. SF likes 11. g4, advance the unopposed pawn or some heuristic like that.
