Jan-22-08 | | micartouse: It was a cool game and all, but what's with some of the exaggerations? haha Topalov has played many games better than this in the last few years, and very often they involve sharp tactical novelties in topical positions. And yes, Tal would have considered Nxf7 - good grief! |
Jan-22-08 | | Chess Carnival: Topalov himself is not so sure if the sac is sound. Anyway its obvious that it brings excellent practical chances, even at this level. |
Jan-22-08 | | yalie: does 29..Qe2 really draw? The idea appears sound enough - Qf1 followed by b2, but who would think about the Qe2 when all the action is on the other end of the board? |
Jan-22-08 | | Eyal: A possible improvement for Black even before 17...Rhg8 might be <14...Kg8>. 14...Ke7, which was a big decision, was played by Kramnik fairly quickly, but the king might be safer on g8 rather than being whisked over to the queenside. |
Jan-22-08 | | shach matov: Ohh man, some funny posts here! It's amazing to see some of the best players in the world analyzing the sac with open mouths but for <micartouse> it's nothing! :--), he would have simply refuted it over the board! oohhh man thx for amusing me! :---) |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: I like so much Vishy, but...but...but...I want Vlad to win, because the second Vlad-Topa WC match will be something special. |
Jan-22-08 | | yalie: <walker> if Vishy wins (and if Topa wins), here is what you can get: Anand vs Topalov, 2005
(23rd century chess according to Vlad)
Topalov vs Anand, 2005
(quite simply the most commented game in chessgames.com) Vishy is no chicken at handling home cooked novelties OTB. |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: < yalie > I know. As I said i like Vishy --- as a player, as well as a person --- but there will be not a real drama in Topa - Vishy match. |
Jan-22-08 | | Refused: There will be two great matches, no matter if Kramnik or Anand wins. Anand-Kramnik will be very entertaining and so will be Anand-Topalov or Kramnik Topalov. Topalov-Kramnik might just be a bit more entertaining because of the disgust they feel for each other, but after their childish behavior in their last match and the aftermath (yes, I put most of the blame on Danailov), I'm not sure that the rematch is in the best interest of the game. I just hope Topalov deosn't come up with ideas like losing to Kamsky. Kamsky is somehow the least interesting player from those four, eventhough I have to admit unlike Topalov or Kramnik he earned his shot by winning that World Cup Tournament, fair and square. |
Jan-22-08 | | micartouse: <shach matov> No, I give Topalov his due. He wins often like this, and it's very admirable and artistic - he's a strong player. It's just some of the hype people are fueling like it's the greatest game in decades, or the knight sac was an unprecedented revelation too profound for Tal to conceive. |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: <Refused> I am not fond of that character Danailov, but weren't the Russians first to begin the dirty camaign, accusing Topa of ceating in Argentina? They are very experiance in dirty tricks...remember Bobby vs. Spasky and Karpov vs. Korchnoy? |
Jan-22-08 | | yalie: actually guys like Kramnik and Leko, (because they rely on narrow openings but know them in depth) are not as good at handling novelties compared to Anand or Aronian who are more universal. |
Jan-22-08 | | yalie: <walker: < yalie > I know. As I said i like Vishy --- as a player, as well as a person --- but there will be not a real drama in Topa - Vishy match.> dont worry Danailov will create enough drama .. how long before he accuses Vishy of hiding a chip under that burgeoning paunch? :) |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: <yalie> lol |
Jan-22-08 | | shach matov: <micartouse> By your own admission you not rated high enough to judge this. And we can take a vote here whether or not Tal would see NXf7 over the board. Tal is one of my favorite players, but even he would need a few days of quiet analysis at home to even consider it.
And indeed I dont remember during the past few years seeing such a bombshell as Nxf7 at such a high level. This game will be analyzed for many months to come. |
Jan-22-08 | | TrueBlue: Excellent site, horrible kibitzers. People will dismiss such a great game just because of their dislike for Bulgarian players and love for marginal Russian players like Kramnik. |
Jan-22-08 | | chessmoron: <And we can take a vote here whether or not Tal would see NXf7 over the board.> Topalov did not see Nxf7 over the board. This was found by his second Cheparinov who is a great novelty expert that uses high-power computers.. |
Jan-22-08
 | | chancho: The move Nxf7 was found by Cheparinov in opening preparation for Topa, no? Would Topa have found it in a classical game without opening prep? |
Jan-22-08 | | shach matov: <chancho>: This is a known fact. The question was whether Tal would find it over the board. |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: < TrueBlue > Kramnik is everything but a marginal player. Sorry. |
Jan-22-08 | | chessmoron: <People will dismiss such a great game just because of their dislike for Bulgarian players and love for marginal Russian players like Kramnik.> Only Bulgarians and those who haven't seen countless of best chess games will like this game. |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: <chancho> As Booby said: " Chess is dead". Long live Fischerrandom! |
Jan-22-08 | | walker: < chessmoron > Who said you are a moron? |
Jan-22-08 | | chessmoron: You and slomarko. |
Jan-22-08 | | Kaspablanca: Good game of Topalov, now is 24 to 15 and 42 draws, leading Kramnik. Not bad for a "marginal" Russian player. The N sac is a typical and classic sac on this opening, so i dont see the big deal, now the Q sac is another issue. |
