Apr-07-08  tal lover: Amazing knight trap!!
Apr-07-08  tal lover: im a big moro fan but this victory was only possible because of a blunder 25.Nxb7
Apr-08-08  SniperOnG7: Yes, massive blunder by Onischuk.
Apr-08-08  percyblakeney: <this victory was only possible because of a blunder>

It is a big blunder indeed, but I think black could have won also without it. He has things like b6 followed by (white Ne4 and) f5, threatening to double rooks on the e-file, placing one of them on e2 or e3, maybe a knight on f4 or pick up the pawn on c3. My engines give black a bit more than -0.50 before the blunder but it tends to increase quickly when you play out the lines.

Apr-08-08  Microdot: <percyblakeney>
Agree,
Great Morozevich was winnig also without 25.Nxb7??

Now Morozevich's rating is 2785!!
As a big Moro fan , I am very happy.

Apr-08-08  lisyaron: Incredible oversight by Shabalov! As with <Microdot>, I agree; Moro probably had a slight plus in the position already.
Apr-08-08  arsen387: <lisyaron: Incredible oversight by Shabalov!> Indeed, Shabalov, knowing Onischuk, must keep an eye on him. But I think here Motylev has his share of guilt too :)

Russian Team Championship 2008 6th Round
Onischuk Alexander - Morozevich Alexander, Russian Team Championship 2008, 6th Round.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.cxd5 exd5 6.Bg5 c5 7.e3 Nbd7 8.Bd3 Qa5 9.Qc2 c4 10.Bf5 0-0 11.0-0 Re8 12.Nd2 g6 13.Bh3 Kg7!?

13..Bxc3 is common choice here, but of course, there's nothing wrong with 13..Kg7.

14.Bh4!?

White usually goes for 14.Rae1.

14..Nb6 15.Bxc8

New move, old is 15.Nb3.This move took place in game Alekseev Evgeny - Morozevich Alexander, Russian Team Championship 2007, 7th Round!

15..Raxc8 16.Bxf6+ Kxf6 17.a3 Bxc3 18.bxc3 Na4 19.Rac1 Kg7 ( diagram )

Black is a better, his main threat is Rc6-b6-b2.On the other hand White faces problems with thematic e4 push.

20.e4 dxe4 21.Nxe4 Rc6 22.f3?

White lost his head here, 22.f3 is not making any sence, making a hole in your own position without any reason is a positional holocaust.22.Rce1 is better but verdict is the same, Black is better.

22..Nb6?

Not using his chance.22..f5 with Rce6 next is very good for Black.

23.Qb2 Re7 24.Nc5 Nd5 ( diagram )

Black is on top, a3, c3 and e3 are targets, Knight on d5 is godlike.Hard to give advice to White here, maybe 25.a4!?

25.Nxb7?? Qb6 0-1

After 26.Qxb6 axb6 Knight is trapped.

Apr-09-08  kingsindian2006: people who state , the game was only won because the opponent made a blunder is like saying , the team lost the soccer game because they didn't score enough..
Apr-09-08  Warheart: White is so bad here, there's no doubt about final score, blunder just made it shorter. This reminds my to some Ivanchuk's games, he blunders to ease his suffering :)
