Apr-21-08  russep: WOW Karjakin really was getting into Navara's position too bad Navara was able to save would have been interesting to see how he would have won it.

Karjakin Sergey - Navara David, Grand Prix Baku, 1st Round.Position is balanced, e5 is weak but d3 is also shaky, Spanish Bishop is strong as usual but he collegue is doing quite well on a8.

22..h6!?

Straight approach like 22..Nf4 is possible but it cannot change the evaluation.23.Nxf4 exf4 24.Ne2 Ne5 25.Nxe5 Bxe5 26.d4 Bd6 27.d5 c6 28.Nd4! with equality.

23.Nh4 Kh7

Pawn can be defended in several ways, Navara's choice is most logical.23..Nce7 is possible, White has nothing better then to return with Knight on f3.If 23..Nde7 then 24.Qc1!? with Rd1 to follow keeps the balance.24.Nf3 goes into draw.If White wants a fight then his thoughts should be focused on 24.Bf7!? but I doubt it can work.

24.Nxg6 Kxg6 25.Bxd5 Qxd5 26.Qh5+ Kh7 27.Qxe8 Nd4 ( diagram )

28.f3

Karjakin is satisfied with draw.What about 28.Ne4!?.Well after 28..fxe4 29.Rxe4 ( if 29.dxe4 Nf3+ 30.gxf3 Qxd2 is equal ) Ne2+ 30.Kh2 Nf4 31.Bxf4 exf4 32.f3.Fight goes on.

28..Nxf3+ 29.gxf3 Qxf3 30.Ne4 Bxe4 31.dxe4 Qg3+ 32.Kf1 Qf3+ 33.Kg1 Qg3+ 34.Kf1 Qf3+ 35.Kg1 draw
