Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-04-08  whiteshark: <18.cxd5> was the losing move. Better was 18.c5.
Oct-05-08  whiteshark: and <21...Rg6!!> would have been the k.o. move.

Nov-18-23  mel gibson: I didn't know what to do.

Stockfish 16 is calling it a draw:

18. cxd5

(18. c5 (c4-c5 d5xe4 f4xe5 Rh6-g6 Be2-g4 Bc8xg4 Rf1-f4 Qh4-e7 h3xg4 Bb6xc5 Ra1-f1 Bc5-b6 Rf4xf7 Qe7-e6 Qc3-b4 Bb6xe3+ Kg1-h2 h7-h5 Qb4xe4 Qe6xg4 Qe4xg4 Rg6xg4 Rf1-f5 Be3-h6 Rf7xc7 Bh6-f4+ Kh2-g1 Bf4-g3 Rc7-c4 Rg4xc4 b3xc4 h5-h4 Kg1-f1 ) +0.02/55 250)

score = 0.02 = a draw. Depth 55.

Nov-18-23  Brenin: Is there some mistake? Should the puzzle be Black's 18th move, not White's?
Nov-18-23  EasilyConfused: I think 19 g3 is much better defense than the game line

  al wazir: I think white gets equality after 18. Ng5 Rg6 19. fxe5 Rxg5 20. Bf3 Rexe5 21. Qxe5 Rxe5 22. Bxe5 Bxe3+ 23. Kh2.

But no more than equal.

  scormus: What a rubbish puzzle. Not for the first time this week!

  Sally Simpson: Luckily I saw the comment by scormus before taking on the puzzle, There are some here who will tackle it when they first log on thinking White has a win and that this is a very tough Saturday puzzle.
Nov-18-23  LessThanAlphaZero: By clicking on Engine the Olga engine gives the following variant:

18.c5 dxe4 19.fxe5 ♖g6 20.♖f2 ♗a7 21.♗c4 ♖f8 22.b4 ♕xh3 23.♕d4 ♗e6 24.♗xe6 ♕xe6 25.♕xe4 b6 26.♖af1 c6 27.♗d4 bxc5 28.♗xc5 ♗xc5 29.bxc5 ♖e8 30.♖xf7 ♕xe5

And evaluate this final position as +0.67

but 31.♕xe5 and if 31... ♖xe5 32.♖f8#

There is a tremendous flaw in the configuration of the analysis module.
