  Korora: I saw ♘xe7.
Mar-12-24  Whitehat1963: I hate to admit it, but I did not see that the white rook was pinned, making my first choice (Rg3) impossible!
Mar-12-24  Dohboy: Yeah, I knew that it looked too easy. I missed the rook being pinned too.
Mar-12-24  Mayankk: White would dearly want to play 30 Rg3+ Kf8 31 Qh8# but the Rook is pinned by Black Queen.

However that also means that the Black Queen can't leave the diagonal and may be overloaded. So we take advantage of this via 30 Nxf7+. With 30 ... Qxf7 not available, Black has to contend with 30 ... Kf8 31 Qf6+ Ke8 32 Qf7#.

Had the puzzle started a move earlier, spotting the solution would be even more fun. 29 Nxf5 seems an excellent demolition sacrifice, threatening Qg7# and probably forcing gxf5. Rest we already know.

Mar-12-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: The first try is: 30. Nxe7+ Qxe7 31. Rg3+ Kf8 32. Qh8#. Refusing: 30... Kf8 31. Qh8+ Kxe7 32. Qg7+ Ke8 33. Qf7#. Monday again. LOL.
Mar-12-24  Allderdice83: Yeah, once I tried to play 30. Rg3+, and it wouldn't go, then I figured I'd like to deflect the queen. Hence, 30. Nxe7+, and it's mate whether or not Black takes the knight.
Mar-12-24  mel gibson: Easy one today -
a Stockfish analysis is not required.
Mar-12-24  stacase: Saw the pin so let’s say check with the Knight and see what happens. Ha! Patzer sees check says check sometimes works (-:

FSR: As others have observed, 30.Nxe7+ is pretty strong.
Mar-12-24  saturn2: 30.Nxe7 unpins the rook
30...Qxe7 31.Rg3
and if 30....Kf8 31.Qh8

alexrawlings: After <30...Qxe7 31. Rg3+ Kf8 32. Qh8# > is this what’s called an epaulette mate with Qh8#? Or is it known as something else?
Mar-12-24  cocker: 30 Kh1 is mate in 9, instead of 30 Nxe7+ mate in 5

Mar-12-24  TheaN: <30.Nxe7+ #5> either unpins Re3 or forces the King away from h8, both leading to a quick disaster. Didn't see the immediate mate after 30....Qxe7 31.Rg3+ Qg5 32.Rxg5+ Kf8, given e7 is now free and the pawn is undefended, but White won a full Queen anyway. Regardless, this is the longest line 33.Qf6+ Ke8 34.Qf7#.
Mar-12-24  jffun1958: This one is mate-in-5:
30.Nxe7+ Qxe7 (30. Kf8 31. Qh8#) 31.Rg3+ Qg5 32.Rxg5+ Kf8 33.Qg7+ Ke8 34.Qf7#

benveniste: I got the puzzle, but I'm not sure that I would have seen that 27. e6! leads to mate so quickly.
Mar-12-24  alshatranji: Anyone knows the point of 7.Nc2? Stockfish recommends three other moves in this position, all rated higher.
