Chessical: Mecking plays an overtly aggressive line against the Benoni but one which seems to quickly run out of steam, and after exchanging Queens he is left with no advantage.

J Rowson vs C Ward, 2005 seems more in accord with spirit of the the variation, but again should not be a problem for Black.

Then without any obvious mistake committed by Mecking, Kasimdzhanov slowly gains the advantage.

Perhaps <21.Bg5> is better keeping the R on the <e> file: <21...Ned7> 22.a5 Be5 23.Bg4 Bxc3 24.Rxe8 Bxb2+ 25.Kxb2 Nxe8 26.Bxd7 Kxd7 27.Kc3 Kc7 28.Bf4+ Nd6 29.h4=.

<32...Rxf2?> loses to 33.Re7 Rf1+ 34.Kd2 Nb6 35.Re8#

<40.Rxd5> leads to a lost ending, Mecking temporarily has two pawns for the exchange, but his pawns are not sufficiently advanced to counterbalance the active rook. Kasimdzhanov soon splits them and picks them off.

<70...a4> 71.Bb1 Kb3 72.Bh7 Ra2+ 73.Kb1 Rg2 74.Kc1 a3 75.Bf5 a2 76.Bg6 wins even more quickly

Feb-07-09  Glossu: Fantastic game by Kasim!.
Apr-21-09  JohnBoy: I don't get why Mecking gives up the a pawn at 62.
Jun-07-09  ajile: 12.Ne5 as played by Carlsen was interesting.

That is very true.

12 Bh6 stops Kingside castling, but what is it doing after 13...0-0-0, and Mecking can find nothing better than to bring it back to e3 on move 22.
