Timo Staeter described it: "Die Stellung ist natürlich Remis, was mit dem einfachen <58...Kd6 59.Td8+ Kc5 60.e7 Te2 61.e8D Txe8 62.Txe8 Kd4> (Bodycheck!) auch problemlos nachzuweisen war. Ich sah diese Fortsetzung durchaus, überlegte sorgsam noch ein paar Minuten, und spielte <58...Kc7?? <>> Eine rationale Erklärung für diesen Blackout habe ich bis jetzt nicht. Allerdings war dies ein Endspiel besonderer Prägung. Zuvor hatte ich nämlich einige "passive" Remisvarianten (Philidor-Stellung) ausgeschlagen, da ich ein "männliches" Remis erreichen wollte. In meinem Entschluß wurde ich vor allem dadurch bestärkt, dass Sportkamerad Vallejo ein kurz zuvor von mir unterbreitetes Remisangebot mit einem ruppigen "Of course not!" zurückgewiesen hatte. Kein Regelverstoß, aber unter zivilisierten Menschen doch eine gelinde Unverschämtheit. Als das "aktive" Remis dann endlich greifbar war, versagte mein Denkapparat. Wahrscheinlich werde ich nächst Thomas Thiel in Souleidis Gurkenparade dem Hohngelächter der blutgierigen Öffentlichkeit preisgegeben, aber was kann man machen? "Fußball ist wie Schach, nur ohne Würfel" (Lukas Podolski). Ach ja, das Endspiel war nach 58. ...Kc7?? natürlich verhämmert. <59.e7 Tf2+ 60.Kg5 1-0" <>>
