 | | sackman: Seriously crazy - a 19th century style game played in the 21st century. Who could annotate this? |
Aug-10-10 | | kellmano: Totally mad indeed. Thanks for drawing my attention to the game with your comment. |
Aug-10-10 | | whiteshark: I felt somewhat intimidated by the amount of considerable work the white King did. Or was it just flight behaviour? |
Sep-22-10
 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Even by the standards of this berserk variation, this is truly a berserker game. |
Dec-30-10
 | | Phony Benoni: How often do you see castling labelled as a ♗♘ sac? Just gave this one high marks in the Pun Voting Booth. Hope it makes GOTD; I just love the smell of exploding Rybkas in the morning. |
Jan-18-11 | | Karnatakiaditya: <I just love the smell of exploding Rybkas in the morning.> +100000
Just awesome! Thanks Phony Benoni for showing us such a <berserker> game! |

 | | Check It Out: Now that's a spicy meatball! |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Karnatakiaditya> I should make it clear that I did not submit the game, but merely gave it a high grade in the Pun Voting Booth. Speaking of the pun, it's been used before but is highly appropriate for this game. "Crossing Jordan", in Christian imagery, has the meaning of walking to one's death. Certainly White's king did that. |
Jan-18-11 | | newzild: Believe it or not, the piece sac is a actually a recognised line against white's attack with 8.Bb5+ (called the "flick-knife variation"). I examined the line briefly myself when I considered changing my opening repertoire. Never had the bollies to play it, though. |

 | | Phony Benoni: A few words on the opening variation. Yes, it is a real opening variation. They were not making it up. The Taimanov Variation of the Modern Benoni, initiated by 6.e4, 7.f4, and 8.Bb5+, is considered White's most ambitious line in the opening. 8...Nfd7 is the safe move, but generally has dismal results. 8...Nbd7 is a deliberate piece sacrifice. <An Englishman>'s description of it as a "berserk" variation is a fine piece of British understatement. In the final analysis it is probably unsound, but in such a wild situation anything can happen. I pass over the rest of the game in awe and silence. |
Jan-18-11 | | Ratt Boy: This is a contrast to the Tal game from a few days ago, when the White K was an attacking piece. In this game, 8 of White's last 11 moves were K moves--14 of the last 21. And never did he really get to a nice nook where he could hunker down. |
Jan-18-11 | | gtgloner: Shouldn't the game score read 41. ... Qg7# rather than Qg7+ ?? |
Jan-18-11 | | Cardinal Fang: Pre-handshake Cheparinov is awesome, like pre-'Unforgettable Fire' U2. |
Jan-18-11 | | Jim Bartle: So you're saying the Fire was Forgettable? |
Jan-18-11 | | Cardinal Fang: Yes. Once they had realised just how good they were, they were never the same again. |
Jan-18-11 | | mastermind7994: Nice tactical game! |
Jan-18-11 | | belgradegambit: Somehow I just knew <Phony Benoni> would like this game. |
Jan-18-11 | | dvilet: Did this game set a record for checks per move? Jeez Ivanov had to move his king a lot. |
Jan-18-11
 | | AylerKupp: Sigh ... another quiet, dull Benoni. |
Jan-18-11 | | kevin86: Jordan gets called for traveling!! 15 king moves in 41 tries! |

 | | playground player: "No chess player can do very wrong by keeping his King the hell away from his opponent's broadsides."--Lord Nelson |
Jan-18-11 | | gars: <AylerKupp> is one hundred percent right: another quiet, dull Benoni. |
Jan-18-11 | | Octal: Ivan, oh Ivan, where are you going? |
Jan-18-11 | | Sho: Move 11: Black to move: Mate in 30. |
Jan-18-11
 | | profK: A King march is always fun. This one all but circumnavigates the board! |
