Sep-07-09 | | TheMacMan: he missed the super easy to spot forced mate 35. Rxh6+, seems hes really rusty |
Sep-07-09 | | Jim Bartle: Any opinion on the general quality of black's play? |
Sep-07-09 | | TheMacMan: waay too passive, black continuously maneuvers his knight 3 times, giving Kasparov all the time he needs to set up his forces and attack him. its almost like handing somebody a win. i think. |
Sep-08-09 | | TheMacMan: someone must be around 1200 elo... a game where an easy to spot forced mate is missed cannot, i reapeat CANNOT be called a masterpiece. |
Sep-08-09 | | paavoh: <TheMacMan> That "some around 1200 elo" would probably NOT play in Oberliga, though? Please check out his player info first. |
Sep-08-09 | | TugasKamagong: After 35.Rxh6+, if Black doesn't take the Bishop, he has only 35...Kg8 which allows 36.Rh8#. But if 35.Rxh6+ Bxh6 36.Qg6+ Kh8 37.Qxh6+ Rh7 where's the mate? Meanwhile White would be the exchange down for a pawn. |
Sep-08-09 | | Bobsterman3000: <Please check out his player info first.> My general rule of thumb - if a chess player I've never heard of is able to last 35 moves with Kasparov at a simul, I consider that a decently good showing for the player. |
Sep-08-09 | | whiteshark: <paavoh> that's right. He's a FM with Elo 2346 (01-07-2009) according to NicBase |
Sep-08-09 | | Jim Bartle: TugasKamagong: I think in that after 35...Bxh6 36. Rg6 leads to mate. |
Sep-08-09 | | andymac: <TugasJamagong>: 37. ... Rh7 38. Qf6+ Rg7 (only move) 39. Qxg7# |
Sep-08-09 | | LaFreak III: <TheMacMan: he missed the super easy to spot forced mate 35. Rxh6+, seems hes really rusty>It seems you missed 35.Rxh6+ Bxh6 36.Qg6+ Kh8 37.Qxh6+ Rh7
the text move 35.e6 is a good move, cutting the c8-h3 diagonal and from the defense of the Queen to f5 pawn. |

I am not sure how 35. Rxh6+ Bxh6 36. Rg6 Kh8 37. Rxh6+ Kg8 38. Rh8+ Kg7 39. Qh7 # is super easy to spot, furthermore I am not sure how anyone can be criticized for playing another completely obvious winning move, especially in a simul. Let's put it this way, you have 5 seconds on your clock. You have either spotted 35. e6 earlier or it is the first move you spot right now. Do you A. Play the winning move intermediately or maybe use the five seconds to make sure there are no problems with the move. or B. Look for other moves ? Also for anyone wanting to fruitlessly criticize Kasparov's chess game, by stating that he played weak opponents in simuls, his opponent in this game is a 2346 Fide Master. |

Sep-08-09 | | Jim Bartle: Unless I'm missing something, after 35. Rxh6+ Bxh6 36. Rg6, 36...Kg8 is moving into check. |
Sep-08-09 | | Jason Frost: Yep realized and changed it. Meant 36...Kh8 |
Sep-08-09 | | TugasKamagong: Jim Bartle and Jason Frost, thanks for your comments. I missed 36.Rg6. That's the move to play of course, not 36.Qg6+. As for playing 35.e6 right away when you know it wins, rather than some other move, I agree with Jason Frost's take on it. |
