Oct-05-09  YouRang: At the start of this round 7 game, Dzagnidze was leading the tournament by a full game, and now had the white pieces against Shen, who was in 10th place (out of 12 players).

However, Shen won with the black pieces against the leader, allowing Sebag to win her game and tie for the lead.

The losing move had to be here, after <35...Kxe5> [diagram]

White's best move was 36.Rd2, which attacks black's rook and defends Pb2. Play might then continue 36...Rxd2 37.Nc4+! Kd5 38.Nxd2. (Note that this is a bit better for white than the direct 37.Kxd2, which gives up space to black's king and leaves the knight awkwardly placed on b6.)

However, she played <36.Rd4?>, figuring that Pb2 was safe anyway (36...Rxb2? 37.Nc4+ ).

She obviously didn't account for <36...Rxe2+!>, winning a pawn and exposing the fact that white's king was now overworked.

Oct-28-09  Xeroxx: No white lost because of Missouri Division of Tourism budget cuts.
