  plang: 7 exd is the main line but Sutovsky's 7 d3 has scored very well. 8..b6 was played in Toth-Kramnik Rio Janeiro 1991 and Black went on to win; 8..g6 was new. Black would have been OK had he played 31..Be4 and would even have had an advantage had White responded 32 Nc5?..Bd6 33 Nxe4..Bxe5 34 Ng5+..Kg8! 35 Bxe5..f6 36 Bxf6..Rf8; instead after Van Wely's 31..Bd3+? White had the advantage. 41..f5?! was a bluff which would not have worked had White simply responded 42 Rxf5..Bd3 43 Rf7+..Kg8 44 Rg7+..Kf8 45 Kg2..Be4+ 46 Kf2..Ra1 47 Rxg5..Ra2+ 48 Ke3..Bxa3 49 Bc5 winning easily; instead after Sutovsky's 42 Bc5?..d4! White was suddenly lost. 43 Bxd6 would have lost to 43..Bd5 44 g4..Bxf3 45 cxd (45 gxf..d3 queening) 45..f4 mating. 43..d3 44 Rxd3..Bxd3 45 Bxd6..Re6 would have won immediately.

Played in the last(9th) round; Van Wely won the Swiss by a point and a half. Even had he lost this game he would have finished first (Sutovsky was a point and half behind entering the round).

An excellent example of a "cheapo".
