<Tabanus: Carlsen played 16 blitz games today: http://bnbankblitz.sjakk.no/resulta.... I watched them all. Apparently he was pleased with this game,

Dec-07-10  BobCrisp: See (some of) the game here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQbd...
Apr-02-19  ChessHigherCat: Much easier than yesterday's: Rxc5 QxC5 Bxc6 wins a rook
Apr-02-19  stacase: What <ChessHigherCat:> said. I spent a long time yesterday looking and looking, there were five ways to say check and only one of them worked and I missed it. Today was a walk in the park. Take the Knight and skewer the two Rooks.
Apr-02-19  ChessHigherCat: Make a good Saturday puzzle a few moves earlier 28.??

It's funny how Carlsen starts off playing a long series of common-sense moves that makes you think, Hey, I would have played exactly the same thing, then he goes wild and plunges into combinations that leave you dumbfounded

Apr-02-19  Cheapo by the Dozen: I saw quickly that White could sac the exchange to recover the pawn and exchange. Before long I realized it wasn't just an exchange White was winning back, but rather a whole rook. :)
Apr-02-19  lost in space: A wood-pusher overlooks the ranks.

Not today. I found it. Surprisingly

28. Rxc5 Qxc5 29. Bxc6 and White win a rook. 1:0

Apr-02-19  Cheapo by the Dozen: Per the engine Black would actually have had the advantage if he'd sacced the knight on Move 27. So the earliest the puzzle could have started is Move 28.
Apr-02-19  DonChalce: well, easy puzzle. thought it was Monday for a moment.

Jimfromprovidence: I see white winning, but not by a whole rook after 30.Rxc5 Qxc5 31.Bxc6 Rxe3, below.

Apr-02-19  agb2002: White has a bishop for a knight and a pawn.

Black threatens Nxa4 and cxd5.

The rook on d5 blocks Bxc6 and the d-pawn blocks Rxd7. Therefore, 30.Rxc5:

A) 30... Qxc5 31.Bxc6 wins decisive material. For example, 31... Rxe3 32.fxe3 Qxe3+ 33.Kh2 Qf2+ 34.Bg2 Re7 35.Rxd6 Re3 (35... Re2 36.Qc6 followed by an attack against the black king) 36.Rd7+ Kh6 37.Qf4+ Qxf4 38.gxf4 Ra3 39.Re2 + - [B vs p].

B) 30... dxc5 31.Rxd7+ (wins the knight but it's quicker than A due to the airy position of the black king)

B.1) 30... Kh6 31.Qf4+ g5 32.Qxg5#.

B.2) 30... Kh8 31.Qf4 followed by Qh6 wins.

B.3) 30... Kg8 31.Qc4+ Kh8 32.Qf7 and mate soon.

Apr-02-19  saturn2: I saw 30. Rxc5

30..Qxc5 31. Bxc6 and white does not only get back the exchange but will be a bishop up.

30..dxc5 31. Rxd7+

Apr-02-19  saturn2: Not sure I would see 28 Rd5 in a nonblitz game.
Apr-02-19  Lambda: Am I missing something, or can black go 31...Re4 32.Bxe4 fxe4 33.Qxe4 and only be a pawn down? Which is bad, but probably not resignable just yet.
Apr-02-19  tino72: Lambda - you are missing 33.Qxd7 - that pawn on c6 is no longer there.
Apr-02-19  malt: Seen 30.R:c5 Q:c5 31.B:c6
Apr-02-19  cocker: Black's best is 31 … Rxe3, as given by <Jimfromprovidence>

  ferrabraz: 29...Qb7!
Apr-02-19  saturn2: <Jimfromprovidence> I think it is never a whole rook but always a bishop. Also in your line.
Apr-02-19  zb2cr: After 30. Rxc5, Qxc5; 31. Bxc6 wins back the sacrificed Rook, leaving White up by a piece.
Apr-02-19  Otoy: I solved the puzzle.
