An Englishman: Good Evening: And still another win for the peculiar 4...Bd6! This one looks like quite a blowout, too, based upon a quick and superficial glance.
Dec-27-09  MagisterMusicae: Me hubiera gustado ver 27... ♕xf1+!
Dec-29-09  kingfu: Sire: I like to use the Four Knights as an alternative to prepared Spanish games to move 30! This is a peculiar move 4...Bd6. It looks like a principle violation. However, in CG DB this move is +4 since 2001 in about 20 games. These type of games are hard to calculate correctly. Did Pogonina win because of the opening or because of the 130 ratings difference?

Natalia Pogonina: I have prepared this variation a relatively long time ago & was surprised that Tania Kosintseva played it against Nastia in R1. She lost (but the opening was not to be blamed). In this particular encounter White didn't pose any problems for the opponent in the opening, and then gradually got outplayed.

As to Qf1 - I saw that, but was short on time and decided to choose a more safe way of winning, without offering even illusionary counter-chances.

Dec-31-09  kingfu: Spaseba, Natalia. I hope it is spelled correctly! It is always helpful and instructive to get feedback from the participants. I see that you play in classical style against the Caro-Kann (should we rename this defense for Karpov?) What do you think of the exchange variation? I play it because white can control the variation. Also, in the Four Knights, this database says that 5. a3 gives advantage to White. There are NOT enough games to prove it, but before your game with Anastasia , I had never seen 4...Bd6.
