Jan-26-10 | | acirce: No idea how come it's worth it to sac a central pawn just like that, but since Kramnik and Rybka are both convinced it is.. |
Jan-26-10 | | Eyal: Because of the Qg4+ threat Kramnik had to give up either the e5 pawn or the exchange (25...Qc7 26.Qg4+ Rg6), but after 26.Qxe5+ Bf6 he should have enough compensation. |
Jan-26-10
 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Taking the pawn with check certainly is tempting, but what about 26.b3, intending Nb2 and a light square blockade? |
Jan-26-10 | | percyblakeney: The engines as usual find a repetition in the end of their recommended lines. |
Jan-26-10 | | firebyrd: The check of 26. Qxe5+ doesn't really give away a tempo though, as 16. ... Bf6 drives the queen away again. If indeed f6 is where Kramnik wants his bishop, then he gets a tempo as part of the compensation. Yet the pawn will be gone, and that's one less menacing pawn for C to worry about, as well as then the f pawn will again be isolated. I think Carlsen will eagerly grab the pawn and be right to do so, Kramnik perhapes less right in giving it away. |
Jan-26-10 | | Marmot PFL: During Carlsen-Ivanchuk i said giving Magnus pawn was bad ides as he is so accurate in midgame. Maybe Kramnik can do better. |
Jan-26-10 | | percyblakeney: 26. e3 could be playable. |
Jan-26-10 | | A Karpov Fan: even i would play b3 here...that knight is woeful atm |
Jan-26-10 | | Eyal: ...Actually, Black could have defended the pawn with 25...Qd6, but it seems that after 26.Qg4+ Kh8 27.Nxc5 R/Qxc5 28.Qh5+ Black would have to allow perpetual check. |
Jan-26-10 | | ILikeFruits: draws are...
so naughty.. |
Jan-26-10
 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Looking at 27...c4. Must admit, I've spent most of this game puzzled by their play. |
Jan-26-10 | | ILikeFruits: evil stare... O O |
Jan-26-10 | | HomeyDontPlayDat: Can white get Q-g4+ in anywhere? |
Jan-26-10 | | whatthefat: Still following Rybka's line - let's see what the pawn's worth! |
Jan-26-10 | | percyblakeney: With both players low on time this is really hard to predict. |
Jan-26-10 | | Eyal: Konstantin Landa on chesspro predicted this line several moves ago - noting that now 29.Bd7 (look at the a4-e8 diagonal...) Bxe2 30.Qh3 Bxd1 31.Rxd1 Ree6 32.Bxc6 Rxc6 should be good for Black. |
Jan-26-10 | | ILikeFruits: i see...
purple sky... |
Jan-26-10 | | doublemint: Once the 3 pawn is taken, those black pawns (especially the d pawn) seem to be a real menace. EG. Qg4, KF8; Bg7, Ke7; Re1, Qc8 and I like black's chances to promote a queenside pawn. |
Jan-26-10 | | percyblakeney: 29. Be4 and Re1 could be the best moves. |
Jan-26-10
 | | Domdaniel: Considering that these two can play blitz better than most of us play (unassisted) correspondence chess, I don't think 20+ minutes for 12 moves is low on time. |
Jan-26-10 | | MyCatPlaysChess: What about 29.e3 d3 30.Bd7 |
Jan-26-10 | | Eyal: <What about 29.e3 d3 30.Bd7> That would be good for White, but Black can do much better than d3 - 29...Bg7! 30.Bd7 (or 30.exd4 Be2) 30...Bxa4 31.Rxa4 Rg6 (32.Qf5 Re5). |
Jan-26-10 | | doublemint: What about 29.e3 d3 30.Bd7... The problem is e3, Rc7!, then Bh7 Ke7; Qe4, Kd7, Bf5, Kd6, and it looks difficult for white to progress. |
Jan-26-10 | | AdrianP: I still prefer Black by far. The b, c and d-pawns with the bishop pair dominate the position and are nigh on unstoppable. White's N's out of play and his Rs are finding it hard to find useful work to do. Kramnik could have forced White to take a perpetual by hanging on to the h-pawn but chose not to do so. All the pressure's on White here. |
Jan-26-10
 | | Mateo: Now, it's time for 29...Qd6, supporting c5. With that Knight on a4, I really like Black here. |
