Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-06-10  addiction to chess: This game is really in the spirit of the Hippo. Take a passive looking position, play some odd and unusual moves and maneuvers like ...Rd8,...Qc8-a8, then take your time in getting your king to safety, and, when your opponent has been completely bamboozled, suddenly step up a few gears (...b5!, ...Ng4 and ...Nc5 ) to mop up the game.
Apr-22-10  parisattack: Yes, a dandy Hippo by Tiger. He's played the entire Robatsch range of variations and has one (and a book on it) named after him.
Aug-17-10  Xeroxx: Avant garde chess.
Jan-08-12  Shams: Twenty-two moves from Black before he puts a toe on the fourth rank.

  FSR: Cool game. I wonder if I could learn to play like that.
Jan-08-12  King Death: Black's 11th move deserves ?? He had to play 11...Nf8 then ...f7-f6 and ...c7-c6 to win much quicker. His opponent would have been psychologically wrecked.

  FSR: <King Death> Excellent idea, but that setup doesn't win as quickly as you think: Nezhmetdinov vs Ujtelky, 1964
Jan-08-12  King Death: <FSR> In the notes to that game I found this one: B Alterman vs Deep Fritz, 2000. I guess we could call that game the Extended Hippo. What a gem.
Jan-08-12  Shams: <FSR><King Death> I suppose a game with eight white pawns abreast on the <fifth> rank would be too much to ask.
Jan-08-12  King Death: <Shams> Those poor foot soldiers would be pretty tired by then so a few would fall out of the march. That would really be a shame because the country's nice out there. Of course His Majesty might have something to say about being abandoned by his troops.
Jan-08-12  parisattack: Modern-> Hypermodern-> Ultramodern.

The fact that Tiger forgot the castling rule makes the game even more interesting. ;)
