Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-11-10  znsprdx: What happened here? White, up 2 connected passed pawns, replies to . ..66.Bh4 with 67. Nd6 evidently fearing Qe4(which prevented 67.Nf5) instead of playing the simple Bf2. If ....Bx[N]g3 68.Rx[B]g3 If ....Qb7
then Nf5 is playable. Now...68. Bx[B]f2+ 69.Kx[B]f2 Qe4 70.Qg3 Nf6 71.N[b]d6 Qe6 72.Re3 Be4!? (73.Nx[B]e4? Qx[N]e4!) but after 73.Qh3 g6 fails since 74.hxg6 fxg6 75.Nxh6+ Kg7 76.g5 Qx[N]d6 77. g5x[N]f6+ Qxf6 78.Qd7+

A> Kf8? 79.Rx[B]e4 and Black's last gasp Qh4+ is met with 80.Kg2! then Qx[N]h3 81.Qe6+ picks up the loose rook

HoweverB> ...Kh8 79.Nf7+ Kg8 80.Ng5 (Qb2+! almost works) Qxf4+ 81.Nf3 Bx[N]f3 82.Rx[B]f3 Qh2+ likewise almost works in the attempt for a perpetual check

It was amazing how powerful the Bishop was...now I understand why White had so much trouble - I spent over an hour moving the pieces to finally close Black down.
