Sep-04-10 | | ruelas007: actually it's quite awful for white. |

Sep-04-10 | | notyetagm: Game Collection: SS & OL: SAFE SQUARE AND OPEN LINE Wang Hao vs Aronian, 2010 35 ... Bb6xf2! White f3-queen protects e4, interposes h1 |

Sep-04-10 | | cjgone: Nice attacking move that leaves no good options for white. |

Sep-04-10 | | mrsaturdaypants: Maybe more of a Tuesday puzzle? |

Sep-04-10 | | Once: Isn't gxf such a double-edged move? White plays 15. gxf4 and it causes him no end of grief. 20 moves later he falls to a crushing attack which takes advantage of the open g file and a8-h1 diagonal that resulted from allowing his g pawn to be deflected. Black also plays gxf. In his case, it comes as 27...gxf5. But this is not a weakness, it's the avenue for an attack. Black triples his heavy pieces along the g file and has the option of a later Qxe4 to make merry with the open diagonal too. I suppose the moral is that gxf, like so many pawn structures, can be a strength or a weakness depending on how your pieces can work around it. |

Sep-04-10 | | whiteshark: <<Opposite colored Bishops> are wonderful attacking weapons in the middlegame (or in endgames with many pieces remaining) since one Bishop can attack something that the other can't defend.> <34.d5?> activates the last black piece, ♗b6. |
|
Sep-04-10 | | JohnBoy: Lovely finish and nice GotD. But I wonder if white is dead by move 33. Is 33.Qf4 Qg6 34.Bf3 possible? Maybe not lovely, but survivable? |

Sep-04-10 | | Chessmensch: Was Hao in time trouble at suicide move 35? He was lost anyway, but...Curious move for a 2715 player. |

Sep-04-10 | | kevin86: steamroller coming through!!! |
|
Sep-04-10 | | ajile: Hao did White get himself into such a horrible position? Yuck yuck! |
|
Sep-04-10 | | onur87: What is the reason of lose? Is Whites dark bishop on wrong place? So, g2 is empty and black organise an attack from g2. Sorry for my english. Thanks for helps. |
|
Sep-04-10
 | | Sastre: Black is threatening <36...Rg1+ 37.Rxg1 Qxg1+ 38.Rxg1 Rxg1#>. So if 36.Qxf2, then <36...Qxe4+ 37.Bg2 Rxg2> and White cannot avoid 38...Rg1#. |
|
Sep-04-10 | | GlennOliver: "onur87: What is the reason of lose? Is Whites dark bishop on wrong place? So, g2 is empty and black organise an attack from g2." There are many unhappy continuations for White, and no positive ones, as far as I can see. For instance -
35. Bh3 Bxf2 36. Bg2 Rxg2 37. h3 Bg1 38. Qg4 Rxg4 39. hxg4 Qxg4 40. Rd2 Qh4+ 41. Rh2 Qxh2# - wins very quickly. |

Sep-04-10 | | hstevens129: Is it possible Hao overlooked: 36.Qxf2 Qxe4 |
|
Sep-04-10 | | Starf1re: 34) a4 appears to keep black's advantage small while the move played is decisive. |
|
Sep-04-10
 | | Jimfromprovidence: if white plays 34 a4, below, it's a lot trickier for black to find a sure way forward.
click for larger view The e pawn is still protected and if black continues with 34...Rg8, white has 35 Bh3 (threatening Bf5).
click for larger viewWhite will lose the d pawn after 35..Bxd5 in order to protect against 35...Rxg1+, but it's a very uncertain outcome. |

Sep-04-10 | | WhiteRook48: i love the follow-up 36 qxf2 qxe4+ 37 bg2 rxg2
38 qxf6+ r2g7+ |

Sep-09-10 | | paavoh: @once: <Isn't gxf such a double-edged move?> My thoughts exactly, as I saw watching this game unfold. I'm not a big fan of 9.Bf4 either. |

Sep-19-10 | | technical draw: A better pun would have been "Pin City".... |
|
Dec-03-10 | | checkmateyourmove: so why not 19. b4 trapping the bishop ? someone enlightenme thanks! |
|
Dec-03-10
 | | Sastre: 19.b4 cxb3 20.Qxb3 Bxe2 is good for Black. |
|
Jun-25-15 | | kramnov: if 36. Qxf2 then 36...Qxe4 crushes white's entire kingdom. |
