Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-19-18  Delboy: 24. bxc3 seems to be the decisive mistake (anything wrong with 24. Bxc3?). 24. ... Ra4 25. Kb2 (anything else allows black's rook to tear apart white's queen side) 25. ... Rb4+ and 26. Ka1 is forced (26. Kc1 Rb1# or 26. Ka3 Rb6 and white must give up material to stop Bf8+ and Bc2#). With 26. ... Nd4! the final piece springs into action, threatening Nc2#. 27. cxd4 Bxd4+ or 27. cxb4 Nb3#

What is white's reply if black plays 24 ... Bxc3? For example, if 25. bxc3, 25 ... Rxe1+ and the knight at h3 is left hanging after 26. Rxe1, and if 25. Rxe4 Bxe4 the Rh1 is now attacked.

Jan-20-18  Delboy: Yes, that refutes 24. Bxc3. A few cynics will probably argue that the decisive mistake was 2. d4 ;-)
Jan-20-18  Muttley101: ... aaaaand we will now probably see Alphazero start playing 1. e4 e5 2. d4 :D

Seriously, though, 10. c3 is a horrible move (though if it truly is best you're right- the mistake is earlier), and then combining that with g5 later is terrible. Black sacced the exchange for white's light squared bishop. White then undefends the light squares ... well, these things happen :)
