Oct-04-10  whiteshark: <Board one between French prodigy Vachier-Lagrave, and Armenian Aronian, went so fast that by the time most games were still leaving theory at move 15 or so, they had already played more than 40 moves, in an endgame where the Frenchman seemed quite dead. By the time he resigned on move 52, Aronian actually had more time on his clock than when he started!>

Oct-04-10  Atking: I don't understand why they played an important game like a Blitz? Neither why Vachier didn't play 18.NxN QxN 19.Qxa7 with a pawn up? I fail to see any tactic shot If 19...Ba3 20.Qd4. If 19...Bb4 20.Nb5! What is the theory on this line?

Sastre: Other games after 17...Kc8: Opening Explorer. Maybe White was following Aronian's game from 2008.
Oct-04-10  shintaro go: Zugzwang.
Oct-04-10  Gilmoy: <Atking: 18.Nxe5 Qxe5 19.Qxa7 Ba3 20.Qd4> It's playable, but after 20..Qxd4 21.Rxd4 Bc5 22.Re2 Be6 <22.Bxf2? 23.e4> Black's bishop pair gives excellent drawing chances vs White's extra pawn. If White wants more, he'll avoid a forced Q trade.
Oct-04-10  Atking: Thanks <Gilmoy> You surely mean 22.Rd2 I saw the line but after 22...Be6 23.e3 It looks better for White. Bc5 could be a bit more active than Nc3 but this difference is not of pawn value. The advantage is not decisive (I agree) but the position is more pleasant to play for White than Maxime's choice.
Oct-04-10  chessarmenia: <whiteshark> So not only did he spend no time to beat his 2700 opponent with the black pieces, he had enough time to sneak in a snack too?
Oct-07-10  whiteshark: <chessarmenia <.. he had enough time to sneak in a snack too?>> Exactly!
