Oct-20-10  whiteshark: What is happening?
Oct-20-10  SharpAttack: Is Anand losing the killer instinct or creativity with age? I really wanna see Anand unleashing some new openings! Kasparov has consistently proved the usefulness of surprising opening lines at the top level. Anand keeps on playing the same openings and makes himself totally predictable. Whereas, Carlsen experiments with new openings and powerful preparation to go with it. Anand should add new openings to his repertoire!
Oct-20-10  Mr. Bojangles: Maybe he is reserving his most potent, surprising openings for title defences.

The possession of the title is an obsession and as well as an albatross.

Kramnik is free now that he is title-less, he is so free that a fair bit of his losses have been due to too much slack a la last amber.

Oct-20-10  SharpAttack: <Open Defence> You do have a point. But that was world championship preparation. Why can't Anand prepare some openings not be used in the world cup for winning tournaments? One out of I don't know how many options in e4. He has not won a tournament in 2.5 years. He doesn't seem to play with a determination to win anymore. He is strong, probably the strongest, but could use more wins! <Mr Bojangles> I agree with you. But, winning tournaments is also necessary. Just giving a decent performance with draws and a win or two and saving all lines for WC doesn't make a lot of sense. I know the next WC is vvvv important. Probably the one of the hardest title defences in history owing to the computer age. But, we need more WINS anand!!
Oct-21-10  Valiantangel: well Match play n tournament play are strange bed-fellows.Tournament play suit the suit the young n daring.Match play the most prepared.
Oct-24-10  checkmateyourmove: i agree with sharpattack. if anand is saving all his good ideas and lines for the wcc, then that is no good for chess fans. anand is to strong of a player to not get more wins lately. that is why i enjoy seeing magnus play lately, you can tell hes experimenting with openings when the situation calls for it and buckles down and plays solid chess when the big bucks on the line. not sure why every gm doesnt play with that strategy.
Oct-30-10  ReikiMaster: Database only found 34 games for 7..b6 white winning 18-2 (14 draws). I wouldn't choose this line for any home preparation.
Nov-02-10  Ryan Razo: I believe he is just playing openings where he is comfortable and besides did you see Tigran Petrosian play the White side of the King's Gambit?
Nov-02-10  Ryan Razo: ... and btw his surname is not Kasparov or Carlsen.
