HeMateMe: I love the smell of gambits in the morning. They smell like...victory.
Dec-29-10  kdogphs: Wow, two bad moves by Black... 20) Qf4 and 34) g6?? And this guy's rated only 100 below his opponent...

HeMateMe: I thought at first g6 was guarding against some exotic mating net. Perhaps he meant h6?
Dec-29-10  beenthere240: What do you play instead of 20...Qf4. 21. Nd5 is pretty nasty since you pretty much have to take the knight and then you're looking at 2 connected passed pawns.
Dec-29-10  beenthere240: And while 34. ...g6 loses instantly, I don't know what you do about the threat of 35. Rb7. It's funny that the final Q-B battery that's a feature of the Evans gambit ends up in the final position.
Dec-30-10  swr: Black tried to be funny.

HeMateMe: black goes down like a Godena chocolate.
Dec-30-10  Shams: <HeMateMe> A tip, don't bet big on Double Jeopardy if the category is "Know Your Chocolatiers".
Dec-30-10  asianwarrior: 34...g6?? losing the Knight. I thought a player of 2500 ELO points can not make such mistake? Or, something happened that distracted his game.
Dec-30-10  Elsinore: Evans Gambit!! What's a Godena chocolate? Did Ralph Thomson endorse those? Just bustin' ballz, <HMM> :)
Dec-30-10  hedgeh0g: These romantic openings can't go on much longer without some sort of theoretical overhaul. I don't think their recent success in top tournaments can be ignored for much longer.
Dec-30-10  luzhin: Black gets his pieces in a tangle after 31...Qa5 -- if he just retreats his bishop(either to d6 or f8) he should be OK.
Dec-31-10  kdogphs: Does 20)...Rb6 work???
Jan-03-11  beenthere240: <luzhin>
After 31. Bd6 or Bf8, white might play Qa6 (which could explain white black tried Qa5). In anycase, black has serious back rank problems
Jan-16-11  ReikiMaster: 16...Rab8 looks good. 20...Bxc4 looks playable. Now white had an advantage before THE big mistake.
