Feb-22-12  whiteshark: I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
Feb-06-22  Gallicrow: I would have thought that this game is far more likely to have been played by the former Margaret Wood, who married Jonathan Penrose in 1962.

Note that the Margaret Wood who married Jonathan Penrose was the not the same person as Margaret E Clarke

MissScarlett: Why would anyone think that Penrose and Clarke married the same woman, bigamously or otherwise?

But you are correct, it would appear - the <Coventry Evening Telegraph> of August 12th 1963, p.5, identifies both women as challengers for the British crown of Mrs. R. M. Bruce (aka Rowena Mary Bruce).

Jana Bellin

Feb-06-22  Gallicrow: The two women were both called Margaret Wood before they married. They were born within a few years of each other in the mid-1930s. The number of chess playing women in Britain in the 1950s/60s was even smaller then than it is now and so many people assumed there was just the one Margaret Wood.
