At board 4 Mr Brocklebank opened with P to K B 4 against Mr Tullidge, who replied with P to Q 4. The result of the opening was that Mr Brocklebank had a fairly good position, but his opponent gradually accumulated advantages in the middle game. Eventually, on his twenty-fourth move, Mr Brocklebank, who was not in good chess form, made a serious oversight, which at once deprived him of any chance of staving off defeat. Thereupon he resigned.>

Time - Mr. Brocklebank, 54 minutes ; Mr. Tullidge, 1 hour 7 minutes>

This left the score at the conclusion of the third round in the Major Tourney : -

Mr. Crane, 2* ; Mr. Charlick, 2* ; Mr. Lampe, 2 ; Mr. Stanley, 2 ; Mr. Tullidge, 2 ; Mr Brocklebank, 1 ; Mr. Hay, 0 ; Mr. Higgs. 0.
