At board 4 Mr Brocklebank played Petroff's Defence, to which Mr Lampe rejoined with Petroff's own move of 3. P to Q 4.

Afterwards, however, Mr Lampe pursued the attack in a somewhat erratic manner, and Mr Brocklebank, replying with force and precision, soon secured an advantage in position. Eventually, he brought his Rooks into co-operation against the White King, and announced a mate in three moves.>

Stanley, 2 wins, 1 lost, 1 drawn;
