Phony Benoni: Another version of the infamous "Sibenian Trap" often seen in the Smith-Morra Gambit.
Nov-02-22  ZoboBear 000000001: As <Chess Review (Nov, 1943) p331> says:

<An old trap, but still refreshing.>

Apparently 12.e4 is the error...

<This natural looking move is the beginning of the end. Relatively best is 12 P·QR3, followed by 13.P·QKt4 and 14 B·Kt2. >

fredthebear: PB meant "Siberian Trap" dubbed after Boris Schipkov of Novosibirsk in southwestern Siberia. Johner - Tartakower, Berlin 1928 is a more famous example.

B20 is the ECO code in the Sicilian Smith-Morra version of this trap.

Apparently White can play 8.B-QN3, 8.B-Q3, and 8.B-K2.

Perhaps 11.B-Q2*, or 12.N-K4IV, or 13.B-K3y were useful alternatives to stave off the mating threat but not of the same quality.
