Feb-01-12  Riverbeast: Ahh Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!

I love it :-)

What if this girl becomes 'Men's' World Champion one day?

Once she goes over 2700, it's going to be time to invite her to elite roud robins, so she can start crushing Carlsen and Aronian

"First we take Manhattan.....Then we take Berlin!"

Feb-01-12  matebay: <Unless you have a boob thing?>

Who wouldn't if you faced a player in this outfit?http://www.google.com.ph/imgres?q=s...

Feb-01-12  matebay: after a long lull:

kosteniuk: its your move!
matebay: ...(snapping out of a hypnotic state and taking the glance off the twin boobies).... you made your move already? kosteniuk: you've got 1 second left in your clock!

LIFE Master AJ: I wear a hat (baseball cap) during the game ... with the brim pulled low.

If my opponent does ANYTHING to distract me (picks their nose, pulls their bottom lip over the top of their head, etc.) ... ... ... I will never see it, as most of the time, the ONLY thing that I look at is the chess board. (I also wear ear plugs, as I am perhaps overly sensitive to noise.)

Unless my opponent wore a bomb, and their head expoded ... I doubt I would ever notice anything that they did. (But she has a very long way to go before that happens. Let's see what happens when she has to face Kramnik one round, Aronian the next, Carlsen the next, then Anand, and then perhaps Nakamura. Let her get a plus score against that crowd ... and I will jump on the band-wagon too.)

BTW, I have a son and three daughters, I would be cool with a lady player winning the Championship of the World.

One of the Polgar girls ... NOT Judit! ... had one of the best scores/performance ratings ever posted by a woman ... where is she today? (The point? One good tournament does not a champion make.)

HeMateMe: I like the fact that Yifan is so young, there really will be more gains.
Feb-01-12  Marmot PFL: When I had difficulties with women players (played a few and lost some of those), the problem was not distraction. Frankly, most of them were very ordinary looking (as are most male chess players).

I think where problems arise is attitude. Men are often either contemptuous of a woman's ability and get overconfident, or else see losing to a woman as a threat to their masculinity and play scared.

That was Zsofia who murdered a bunch of GMs in Rome when she was 15. She moved on from chess to concentrate on marriage, family and art.

Both her sisters are on record as saying she was the most gifted of the three, but it was Judit with the work ethic. Zsofia just...lost interest.

About one good tournament - true. But let's hope it's not so in this case. The world needs another kickass female chess player.

Check It Out: Wow, what a run! Very cool to witness this. Yifan's game with Judit Polgar was historic. If she can hold tomorrow Gibraltar 2012 will be one for the ages. Coming off the exciting Tata 2012, this is a good time to be a chess enthusiast.

LIFE Master AJ: <twinlark> According to her profile, Zsofia Polgar, she was only 14 when she posted that result.

It was one of the most amazing chess performances of all time ... it would be even higher today, due to relentless rating inflation. (Scary thought.)

LIFE Master AJ: In 1989, I was living at 2900 Longleaf Drive. No Internet, we had some kind of computer network, but not like it is today. (Back then it was a bunch of geeks who sent Morse Code over the HAM radio or pulse signals over a telephone connection.)

I got "Inside Chess," and "Chess Life."

I read the account with total disbelief ... I went over the games ... it felt like an experience straight out of the "Twilight Zone."

I doubt that. It was always the youngest, Judit, who was overpowering all comers, male and female. As a small child, Sofia didn't have the kind of results and natural talent that Judit did.

Feb-02-12  Riverbeast: Hou said Fischer was her favorite player

Interesting that she also seems to be almost exclusively an 1.e4 player, and she plays the Poisoned Pawn

Feb-03-12  drukenknight: does anyone want to talk about the moves? Does anyone see a better 16th move for white?
Feb-03-12  andrewjsacks: Well, there was probably a better 20th one for him; whose poisoned pawn was it, anyway?
Feb-03-12  drukenknight: what if 19...Qc5+?
Feb-03-12  JoergWalter: <Riverbeast: Hou said Fischer was her favorite player>

There is definitely nothing wrong with that when searching truth in chess.

Feb-03-12  JoergWalter: <andrewjsacks> I think in the Keres variation after 10.e5 h6 then 11.Bxf6 is a better option.
Feb-03-12  drukenknight: look at the relation ship between the B on e2 vis a vis the black K on move 16/17; now look at the relation ship of these same white squares on move 49. Does anyone get this?

LIFE Master AJ: I did a brief analysis ... never finished it.
Feb-03-12  andrewjsacks: Joerg, I agree with your opinion on White's move 11. Still, I think White's taking that b pawn was probably not best.
Feb-06-12  diceman: <drukenknight: does anyone want to talk about the moves?>

Whte should have played:

1.d4!

Feb-08-12  drukenknight: well on move 16 I am looking at Be2 or Bd3 one of them has to be better they cant both be right; chess doesnt work like that (or on the rare occasion it does something really messed up). It seems that 16 Bd3 is the move, you can think about the reasons yourself. Now think about how the game evolves around this move...
Feb-22-12  whiteshark: <brucejavier> Never trust a Press Release where they spell program as "programme". :D
