HeMateMe: I wonder if white should have played b3 early and got her Rooks on to the central file to drain off the black attack. She lost time and space guarding the pawn on b3.

An Englishman: Good Evening: All these decades of playing, studying and/or following chess, have never seen anything like the Bishops and Pawns formation on c5, d5, c4 and d4 after 39...Bc4. Age cannot stale chess' infinite variety.

8.Bd3 began a long period of excessively passive play by White. 8.e5 (which frequently includes b3 and Bb2, as <HeMateMe> recommends) would have proven better. Sometimes risk contains the only safety.

  HeMateMe: Is this groundhog day?
Mar-30-21  thegoldenband: <HeMateMe: Is this groundhog day?>

It's rather odd: yesterday, this was GOTD for about 8-10 hours, then it wasn't; and now today, it was GOTD for the start of the day, and then it wasn't. I guess my pun gets to accompany the "game of several parts of several days", which is OK by me!
