HeMateMe: Yifan seemed to have equality coming out of the opening, but misjudged her position by playing gxf4, giving up the exchange. Maybe the mistake was pushing the g pawn to begin with.

But, strong players take risks to win. My kind of player.

Mar-28-12  rannewman: I am not sure what you are calling equality here..without giving the exchange immdiatly Nd6 was comming anyway.

HeMateMe: I'm saying after, say 14 moves the position was balanced. Somehow, probably at home, Yifan had worked out that black's early g4 would reap benefits. Her Opponent was able to find things in the position that she was not.
Mar-28-12  shakespeare: I am a hyperaccelerated dragon addict for years - my experience is, that the game tends to be lost if you loose your d5 pawn - there was no reason to rush with Nf5 - first e6, protecting d5 and then building up the pressure against d4 is what the position requires - after Bxf3 black has already more then equality and he is facing a very hard game with almost no counterplay - I consider the whole line as inferior for white - if you want to play c3 - play it on move 2!

This is new twist on the old confession "I am an addict..."

Mar-28-12  rannewman: shakespeare, if 11...e6, 12.Nb5 looks very annoying imo.

Penguincw: For some reason, Hou Yifan usually has bad starts.
