Jul-17-12  whiteshark: Down goes Dani F., with flying CK colours.
Jul-17-12  Eyal: Karjakin vs Eljanov, 2010

Karjakin vs A Tukhaev, 2010

Karjakin vs V Laznicka, 2011

Here's a wild thought: maybe playing such an anti-positional, pawn-grabbing line against Karjakin, who moreover is clearly an expert in it, not a great idea?

Jul-17-12  whiteshark: Don't say nobody warned you! ;)
Jul-18-12  Eyal: Apparently Karjakin's novelty was 18.Bf3; the game Caruana-Postny, played in the Greek League a couple of weeks ago continued 17.Bd1 Qc1 18.Na4 Qc7 and ended in a draw on move 40, and the game Smirnov-Maletin from 2010 ended in repetition after 18.Nb7 Bb6 19.Nd6 Ba5 etc. (both games are missing from this database). After the forcing sequence 18...Bd3 19.Qc1 Qxc1 20.Rxc1, Fridman went almost immediately wrong with 20...Ng6? probably underestimating 21.Nxd5!; as Karjakin pointed out after the game, it was necessary to play 20...Bg6.
