Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-28-12  twinlark:

Yifan must have let her guard down after assuring herself of victory in the Grand Prix series with yesterday's game. Allowing her rook to be bottled up on the queen side allowed White enough scope to win what should have otherwise been a reasonably equal ending.

Jul-29-12  xanadu: But difficulties for Black started early in the opening, after 7...Nc6,allowing White to destroy the Yifan´s pawns structure leading finally to get material advantage (also 6...dxc4 does not look good, since opens the position before development). I guess this game shows the characteristics of Yifan´s plays: searching for tactical complications even at the cost of pawn´s structure or positional issues. It didn´t work today; I think that a clever player as Lahno understood that her bussines was in avoiding the tactics and getting a positional advantage.
Jul-29-12  xanadu: 15Qd5, forcing Queen´s exchange, seems to support the idea that was clear for Lahno how to play against Yifan after obtaining a minimal positional advantage.
Jul-29-12  SimonWebbsTiger: 7...Nc6 has a fairly good theoretical reputation. I think 14.Qa5 is new.
Jul-29-12  xanadu: Yes, but I guess Black do not get anything and seems always in a lower position. The key for White seems to keep pressure before taking the pawn at c4.
