Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-31-12  whiteshark: A typical Bacrot game, blundering the game away in time trouble.
Jul-31-12  Naniwazu: 11. O-O seems incredibly risky after having already played g4-g5 and h4. In his recent match against Topalov, Vallejo-Pons wisely chose to play Be3, Qd2 and O-O-O Vallejo-Pons vs Topalov, 2012.
Aug-01-12  achieve: Black obtained a good advantage already after move 21, so this game was not blundered away, although one can conclude that the Zeitnot sped up the process.
Aug-01-12  sofouuk: <11. O-O seems incredibly risky after having already played g4-g5 and h4>well. rybka says it's playable, and in fact black went wrong with 19... bxa3? white should have played 21 Qd3! after which we have the typically outlandish computer variation 21... d5 22.Nd4 Bxa3 23.Nxc6 Qd7 24.bxa3 Qc6 25.c4 Rh4 26.cxd5

and it's a mess, but rybka says +1.21 at depth 16

Aug-01-12  mrbasso: It's getting on my nerves.
Again and again the younger player has "more luck than brains" as you say in German. What the heck is wrong with this stupid game?
Aug-01-12  Eyal: 21.Nd4(?) Nxd2(?) 22.Bxc6+ Kf8 23.Ne6+ is a pretty idea, but after Giri's reply Bacrot just ends up an exchange down without enough compensation; some bad miscalculation there.

In the post-game analysis with Klaus Bischoff Giri points out that <20.Nd4!> a move earlier was winning for White: 20...axb2 21.Nxc6 bxa1Q 22.Rxa1 Qc7 23.Nxe7 Kxe7 [23...Qxe7 24.exd6 Qe5 25.Rxa5] 24.exd6+ Qxd6 25.Qxd6+ Kxd6 26.e5+ Kxe5 27.Bxa8 Rxa8 28.Bxc5; or 20...Bxe4 21.Nc6!; or 20...Bd7 21.Nf5! (this is confirmed by the engines; the last line may not be immediately losing for Black but White certainly has a big advantage).

Aug-03-12  sofouuk: <<20.Nd4!> a move earlier was winning for White: 20...axb2 21.Nxc6 bxa1Q 22.Rxa1 Qc7 23.Nxe7 Kxe7 [23...Qxe7 24.exd6 Qe5 25.Rxa5] 24.exd6+ Qxd6 25.Qxd6+ Kxd6 26.e5+ Kxe5 27.Bxa8 Rxa8 28.Bxc5; or 20...Bxe4 21.Nc6!; or 20...Bd7 21.Nf5!>those are some extremely cute variations :)
