It looks like Grischuk missed chances to achieve something more substantial here, with the maneuver Bb7-Rd8-Bg7 in order to penetrate with the rook to d2, e.g. 22...Bb7 23.Kh1 (23.Bf2 Rd8 24.Qe2 Rd2 25.Qe8+ Bf8) 23...Rd8 24.Qg1 Bg7 25.Bxg7 Kxg7 to be followed by Rd2 with strong pressure (26.Rd1 doesn't help because of Rd3! with the threat of Rxf3; 26.Qc1 is met by 26...Qc5 27.Qg1 Qb4). The (tactical) problem with 22...Ba8, as played, is that after 23.Bf2 Rd8 24.Qe2 White doesn't have to worry about 24...Rd2, because 25.Qe8+ wins the bishop.

Aug-13-12  Eyal: Btw, according to the round report on the official site (http://translate.google.co.il/trans...), Grischuk did consider 22...Bb7 and rejected it because of 23.Bb6 (to prevent Rd8; he mentions the line 23.Bf2 Rd8 24.Qe2 Rd2 25.Qe8+ Bf8 26.h4 Qf6 as bad for White), after which he didn't see anything especially good for Black; so he played instead 22...Ba8, to meet 23.Bb6 with Rb8.

He missed that after 22...Bb7 23.Bb6, Black is winning with 23...Qf6! attacking the bishop and creating the threat of Be3, after which White's knight on a7 gets trapped; e.g. 24.Bd4 Be3+ 25.Bxe3 Rxe3 (threatening Qb6) 26.Nb5 (26.Qa4 Re2 and White's position collapses) 26...Rd3! clearing the way for Qb6 with check.
