Nov-15-12  The17thPawn: Pogonina knocks out the reigning champ! Well done!
Nov-15-12  MountainMatt: In "classical" chess, Kosteniuk is the ex-champ. Yifan Hou is, of course, the reigning champ. However, Kosteniuk IS the reigning Chess960 champ, which is nothing to sneeze at.
Nov-15-12  The17thPawn: <MountainMatt> - Thanks for keeping me straight but it's still an impressive victory:)

HeMateMe: Very interesting, how Pogonina continued to counter AK's pressure on the a file. Instrucutive parry and thrust work.
Nov-16-12  SChesshevsky: A tough opening for Black.

For anybody interested in the opening, I didn't play it much but I thought I often had better chances with an earlier 11...h5 which gains maybe a couple of tempo after Kb1 and then the immediate ...Bh6.

Depending on the reply it sometimes allowed ...Ne5 eyeing c4 or g4 and sometimes I was able to exchange on d4 and then get my KB to e5.

Once in awhile White played an immediate Nxc6 after ...Bh6 exchanging Q's which seemed to take some of the sting from attacking chances.

Nov-17-12  messachess: A chess contest and a beauty contest all in one with 'advertisements for myself' by Natalia. Can you ask for more?
Nov-17-12  Jim Bartle: Well, it <is> a knockout tournament, after all.
Nov-21-12  howardroark: I think this was Kosteniuks worst game in her whole career it was just not her she was distracted or bored or didnt care the Rook back to a1 after Nb3 is useless - she kept changing plans - more of a fluke victory for pogonina
Nov-28-12  vinidivici: I want to spend all knights with these queens
