Dec-13-12  notyetagm: GM Firman, Nazar (2531, Katernberg) - GM Shirov, Alexei (2718, Baden-Baden)

http://schachbundesliga.de/pics/gal... Aleksey blundered the d6-pawn: 25…Ла8? – 26.Кхd6 Лхd6 27.Лхd6 Фхd6 28.fxe5 and the game lost its interest. 1:0. However, Baded responded to this defeat with four victories and won the match convincingly.

SHIROV BLUNDERED THE BLACK d6-PAWN TO THE PAWN FORK TRICK (DD;DDD)!!! TAKE THE BASE OF THE PAWN CHAIN, REMOVE THE GUARD!!!

Dec-18-12  notyetagm: Great example for Game Collection: PAWN FORK TRICK
Dec-18-12  Gilmoy: <12..a5> seems to be the first big unbalancing, and it goes poorly. Black preserves his Nc5 outpost vs a b4-push, but cedes the even more annoying <17,24.Nb5> outpost. It costs him a bunch of tempi.

<14..Nh7> looks like he's already flailing for pressure. White is happy to trade DSBs, because one fewer minor piece just emphasizes his hopping Ns, while Black's Nh7 cost two more tempi.

At <20..Rac1> Black has no more easy moves, and now Black must <pick a plan>. And he's hit a ceiling: none of his pieces can be improved, none of his pawns are mobile. White still has Qg5 and f4, and promptly uses both.

<10.a4 11.b3> as a deep home-prep prophylaxis: to take away squares from the Nc5?
