<21.Nd1?> white probably did notice the discovered attack on his rook <21...Nf3+ 22.gxf3 Bxa1>

But he probably didn't notice that this resulting position left his N immobile and about to fall after ...Rd8. After that, the the pinned Bf1 will fall after ...Bxh3. The likely line is 23.Qxb7 Rd8 24.Qb1 Rcd2 25.Qxb1 Rxd1 26.Qe6 Bxh3 27.Kg2 Bxf1, and black has 2R and a B against the lone white Q, which should be .

The only move that gives black a fighting chance is 21.Nd5! The best black can do is take the N: 21...Bxd5 22.exd5 Nf3+ 23.gxf3 Bxa1

And now white can get some leverage out of his pawns: 24.d6! Rd2 25.Qxb7 Rxd6 26.Bc4!

The strong LSB pins and threatens Pf7, and it supports the passed a-pawn. White should be able to hold the draw here.
