Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-12-15  YouRang: After <19.Qb3>:

White is clearly threatening Qxb2, which would fork the R and N, and gain an inroad to attack black's king. Obviously black wants to prevent that.

One decent way is 19...Rb8, and another is 19...O-O-O. But black trys blocking the queen with <19...Nb5?>.

White alertly notices that this creates an overworked Pc6, thus <20.Nxd5!> wins a critical pawn, and opens a dangerous inroad for the Q on the a2-g8 diagonal. White is already winning at this point.

Black made things worse with <20...Nxd4?>, regaining a pawn, but allowing <21.Qxb7> after all, which is now even more dangerous than before because of the Nd5. Black resigns about three moves later.

  FSR: Suicidal play by Joe.
Oct-23-20  RookFile: 14....h6 and 0-0-0 in a few moves wouldn't have been bad. Sometimes black does castle queenside in the queen's gambit and it would have been ok here.
