Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-14-14  Howard: Kavalek annotated this game for Chess Life and Review back in the September, 1978 issue, and this was one of the better games of the event. In fact, it even made the Informant.

The tournament winner, Kavalek, remarked that Commons was 20 minutes late to the game and probably regretted it once he got into trouble in the middlegame.

Jun-14-14  BwanaVa: I remember that issue! The cover art was Kavalek riding a knight onto the square f6 as the final move of the Commons game...
Feb-05-15  Howard: Jeez ! I do recall the cover of that particular issue, but I didn't realize that Kavalek was "riding a knight" to a specific square in that cover story !

Very observant of you !

fredthebear: Who originally said "Never a mate w/a knight on f8"? https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comm...

We have a beautiful Arabian Mate here. One can make hay w/rooks on a half-open file. In this case, a pin on the g-file that opens up.
